The last time I dyed my hair was in secondary school, and it was really expensive at a neighbourhood salon. Since then, I seldom dye at the salon and usually do it myself.
But as I was preparing for my pre-wedding shoot, my fiance and I wanted to have similar hair colours, so i decided to give Kimage a try as a friend recommended me.
Hence, I am writing this blog post to share my experience at the Kimage Hair Salon at Marina Square

Kimage Hair Salon in Singapore that offers affordable hair colouring and hair cut services
Just a brief background about Kimage Hair Salon. Established in 1994, it is a boutique hair salon chain in Singapore that have won multiple awards. They offer a wide range of hair services, such as haircuts, colouring and treatments. Their main specialty is in colouring and treatment options. They also have a hairdressing school that’s awarded EduTrust certification by Singapore Committee for Private Education, a first for a hairdressing school in Singapore.
The branch that i went to was located at Marina Square. It is situated on the second floor of the building.
The ambience and Interior Design at Kimage Hair Salon, Marina Square
When I first stepped into the Kimage hair salon, I felt like I was in a very upscale posh salon with young stylists. Kimage Hair Salon also has a decent interior design that makes you feel relaxed. Loads of natural lighting from large windows outside, you feel like you are in Apgujeong Hair Salon, yes that feel, but paying a fraction of that price.
Excellent Customer Service at Kimage
So we went down twice, the first time we went down to Kimage Hair Salon, we told them the hair colour that I wanted to achieve, which was copper brown. They asked me for my shoot date and told me to wait another 2 more weeks as red/copper colour fade very fast. If i dyed too early, my hair colour would have turned brown by then. I was impressed that they didnt ask me to go in and colour my hair immediately. Rather they focused more on helping me to get the colour that I want. I was quite happy with the service.
Junior, Senior Stylists, Mine was a Junior Stylist
So at Kimage, they have different price tiers for the seniority of the stylist starting from Junior Stylist, then Senior Stylist, Leading Stylist, Master Stylist and finally, Principal Stylist. What a lot of levels!
A friend recommended me to start off with the Junior Stylist.
My stylist really listened to what i had in mind and made thoughtful suggestions on how best to achieve it so that my new hair colour would suit me well. It is clear that they have a good team there who are passionate about their work!
I had a super long fringe and she recommended me to have it trimmed so that it will make the hair at the top of my head less flat. Love the snips! The haircut took slightly longer than expected but I felt very comfortable throughout as my stylist kept checking with me if she had cut too much or not enough etc. Most importantly, all these came at an affordable price which was great for me.
Usually, salons that I go to will price the hair treatment at an exorbitant price, hair dye price will usually be a fraction of the treatment price. I opted for a basic treatment as my hair is in quite a bad state, it was a K- treatment. It made my hair feel bouncy and less dry. And the price was reasonable. I’m not sponsored for this post. Its my honest sharing here.
Good head Massage by my Junior Stylist
So as I was going to Kimage Marina Square branch for their Junior Stylist, I have to book an appointment. I must say that my stylist did an excellent job, she was gentle and her massage felt really great. She also washed off the dye nicely without dripping too much water onto me.
After everything finished, I went to pay for it (which is exactly like what you would expect from a posh salon). As they told us upfront about their charges before cutting my hair, it surprised me when i saw the bill as its almost 50% cheaper than my neighbourhood salon.
Kimage Hair Salon Prices
For the kind of services and ambience, I would have expected a price higher than my neighbourhood salon as it was in town. But it was way cheaper, in fact, half the price of my hair colouring with treatment at my neighbourhood salon stylist.
I found that it was affordable and relaxing, and the dye was more vibrant. Years back at my neighbourhood salon, I requested a bright red hair dye. The stylist showed me she used the brightest dye, but my hair couldnt absorb the colours and she recommended me to bleach to achieve brighter colour. Yet, at kimage, when my stylist was blow-drying my hair, i was surprised that the colour was brighter than my neighbourhood salon colour! I was like, ok next time, if I’m colouring my hair, I’m coming back again. Ok, the photo below doesn’t do it justice.
Also, the prices on their website are really reasonable too – even for services such as hair colouring which can often be very expensive elsewhere!
And one more thing that I did not expect, there was a guarantee.

I’m a noob with hair salons, but this is the first time I encounter such guarantees. This shows their customer-centric goal.
A few days after my visit, my stylist messaged me to ask me about my hair colour and asked me to take a photo. I did not expect that at all. So the thing was, I didn’t know what I wanted. And eventually chose a red colour for my hair. The photo above does not show the redness, the redness was more obvious the next day. But I regretted it as it felt a little too bright so i tried to fade the red out asap. This isn’t her fault, its just me not knowing what i want.
My fiance had his hair cut and colouring is done by another Junior Stylist, so maybe I’ll try his too.
My Verdict, Will I Come Back Again?
Yes, I would go back again!
I really like the ambience of the Kimage hair salon. I felt really pampered at the salon.
The service was great too – friendly staffs with great service, I also like that I didnt have that feeling of being “sold” or pressured into buying something more expensive than what I wanted. I would probably go for a darker shade though for my actual day hair colour.
